Sclerotherapy for thread veins

WHAT IS SCLEROTHERAPY?

Sclerotherapy is a non-invasive treatment that aims to eliminate unwanted "damaged" veins (thread veins and varicose veins). It is a safe and completely successful method, which helps to eliminate insufficient intradermal and subcutaneous veins.

What is the procedure of sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a sterile solution of a hardening substance into a vein through a fine needle. Absolutely no anesthesia is administered for sclerotherapy.

What should I avoid & What should I expect?

Before your session you should avoid aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, as well as alcohol consumption for 2 days before the treatment.

After the session there is usually some redness and swelling along the veins. This can take a few hours, or even a few days depending on the size of the veins.

How long does the treatment last and how often is it done?

Each treatment session lasts approximately 30 – 45 minutes and takes place in the doctor's office. We usually set intervals of a few weeks between sessions. If there are numerous veins, the sessions may be done at shorter intervals.

How many treatment sessions are needed?

How many injections will be needed in each session depends on the number and extent of unwanted veins. Most patients need 2 – 6 sessions.
